Any idea why they are moving? Getting bigger or having trouble?

From what I've heard, Midwest is one of the larger HB shops in the country, they do a ton of mail order stuff. So I'd be surprised if it was financial, unless the terms of their current building lease are not good. Seems like there are more people working there now than there have ever been. But my info is all second hand, so it might not be valid.

And Northern is opening a store in Milwakee. Business must be good.

I was in-store on Friday, and picked up a flier about this, and wondered the same thing. Tina then pointed to a small footnote at the bottom.

Announcing extended Sunday hours 11am - 5pm

I think they're doing good business....

Talked to Pete from Midwest at the AHA rally. Looks like they are moving into a bigger space and will hopefully have two check-out counters at some point. sounds cool.

Hey guys,

Hopefully the next place will be brighter.

Interesting...I stopped in today and asked how the progress on the move is going. They sounded a little frustrated. The move is on, then off, then on, then off again. Supposedly the city is debating on whether they need an explosion-proof room for their grain mill  That would mean re-enforcing walls and cutting out the roof in such a way that in the case of an explosion, the blast would go up instead of out...Go figure.

I supposed they're worried about something similar to a grain elevator explosion. I've seen those before - unbelievable amount of destruction in one of those. I doubt a grain room could get enough dust in the air to make it flammable, but one never knows.

I was in Midwest's old grain room yesterday and am soooo excited about a new and larger room. There were 2 other guys in the room working on all-grain batches and we were all fighting for the one set of scales. Took me 30 minutes for 3 minutes worth of effort.

Last time I was there, some dork was trying to fill 3 different recipes simultaneously and didn't know what he was doing. Standing there jabbering with his buddy, and there was a line of 3 or 4 of us waiting to use the room.

Dear Midwest Customers,

We would be remiss without wishing all of you a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You may have heard, but if you haven't, Midwest is moving! It's official, right down to the date. On March 19th (this Friday), we will be open for business in our new retail space. In order to be ready for business, we're closing early Thursday - at 3PM CST. We'll open the gate at 12:00PM CST at the new space on Friday. The phones will be down during this time as we make necessary transfers from our current site to our new site. Our website will remain up and running the entire time, so do not hesitate to visit us at http://www.midwestsupplies.com and place orders.

We're working up a hardy thirst to get your orders out the door as well as getting ourselves set up in the new space. Undoubtedly, we'll be rewarding ourselves with homebrews over the next few evenings. Wish us luck!

Cheers from the Midwest Crew!
