Perlick faucets

Perlick faucets

Postby Dave M. on Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:09 am

Got the kegerator up and going this weekend. Put new draft lines in - that wasn't too hard, although a little tricky connecting to the faucets - not much room in the tower with 2 taps. But I managed to get it back together. Worth it for the $8 I spent on new tubing. The boys and I made Sprecher Cream Soda on Friday night, and had it under 40 psi for a couple days, and tapped it Sunday afternoon - tasty!

What I noticed is the faucet tends to drip a bit after closing the tap. Pretty sure the faucets are the cheapies. I'm considering upgrading to Perlicks. From what I've read, most everyone says it is worth it. I wanted to get some opinions for our club. I know Kent has them and has recommended them. Eric, JD - do you have Perlicks on your set up? Anyone else?

Been doing a little research and I can get their newest model online - the 575ss with creamer function for about $36 each, delivered. (Midwest and NB are more expensive, even with the 10% discount.)

Thoughts?

Yep, I got the Perlicks for my beer taps, but I went cheap with the root beer tap. Someone said you don't have the sticking problem with soda like you do with beer, but I found that not to be the case. Even with root beer, the cheapies get so stuck when not used for a few weeks that you physically cannot pull the lever. I mean I pulled on that thing so hard I was sure I was going to break something, and still no go. I ended up disconnecting it from the keg, removing the faucet from the shank, and soaking it in hot water before it worked again. On the plus side, it was a tough little sucker...I can't believe it didn't break.

With all that said, I don't think the cheap ones would be a problem if you poured from them every day 8)

I really like the perlicks I have. I've never had a stuck tap handle. I do get a few drops after I use them sometimes...hence the drip tray!
