Great Lakes, Deschutes, & Central Waters

Great Lakes, Deschutes, & Central Waters

Postby translucent on Thu Mar 11, 2010 10:29 am

Just thought I would let everyone know that Great Lakes Brewery, Deschutes Brewery, and Central Waters will all be distributed in Minnesota this year. Sounds like Central Waters within a few weeks, Deschutes in a month or so, and the word isn't out on Great Lakes yet as they are looking for a regional sales rep.
If you've never had any beer from these breweries, I would suggest getting some when it arrives.
Black Butte Porter from Deschutes and Edmond Fitzgerald Porter from Great Lakes are two of the finest porters made in the US
Bottled - Apparition de Tres Fontanes (Belgian Tripel), American Brown Ale Batch #2, Abomination Ale, Shamoke, Heffeweisen

That's great news. I've had beers from all of them before, all good stuff. Central Waters is not too far from where my brother lives in WI, so I've had most of their beers. They've made some good special releases in the past, barrel aged stuff. Great Lakes porter and pilsner are fantastic. But I'm most excited about Deshutes. Mirror Pond is absolutely, without question, my fav-o-rite pale ale in the world! Being hard to get might be part of the reason, but I'm jazzed I'll be able to get it on demand instead of having Eric or someone else smuggle a sixer of it back for me when they go west - ala Cannonball Run.
On Tap: Maibock, Hefe
Secondary: Iron Brewer
Barrel Aging:Surly
Primary: Dubbel, Tafel

Now playing:
John Mellencamp: Life Death Love Freedom

Really excited about Deschutes...I've lost my pipeline to the Pacific Northwest! And I've heard good things about the others. Thanks for the update!

And you want to share them with me!

I've still got 1 bottle left of '03 Rogue XS Imperial Stout and a few other big Stouts that've been cellared for a while... unfortunately I couldn't make it for the Imp Stout tasting, pretty much like all the meetings this year. Just too busy to get away for a few hours.

Any good sours or Lambics hidden away? I still have Allagash Confluence and Interlude and a couple 3F Oude Krieks too... tis almost the season to start cracking those :)

I have a Consecration from Russian river, a rodenbach grand cru, and a Jolly Pumpkin La Roja. that would make quite the sour tasting.

We just added one of the best beers in the USA to our beer inventory. The beers are brewed by Deschutes Brewery located in Portland, Oregon. They get award after award all the time.
http://www.deschutesbrewery.com
The beers are only available in 22oz bottles for now but are priced right at $2.99. Six packs should be available in a few months. Here are the beers currently in stock:

Year Round Beers - $2.99
- Mirror Pond Pale Ale (Smooth and Delicious)
- Black Butte Porter (Deschutes’ Flagship Beer)

Reserve Series - $11.49
- Black Butte XXI – 21 is a big beer at 11% alcohol. Unlike most beers, this one doesn’t have an expiration date. It actually gets better with age. Get one for now and another for tasting later this year. They are available in limited quantities so get them while you can.

All I can say is life is good!

Cheers to all!

FYI Uptown MGM has all 3 current Deschutes reserve series ($13.49 each); Mirror Mirror, Black Butte XX1 & Jubel 2010 (Once in a decade ale) in stock. Not to mention a bunch of bombers of Mirror Pond and Black Butte XX ($3.99 each). Not the greatest prices, but they have it.

Had the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold last night with pizza. I'm not a huge lager fan, but this was great! It is one of the beers listed as a calibration beer for the BJCP guidelines. Malty, with well balanced noble hop character. Like a cross between an octoberfest and a german pilsner.

I have yet to brew a Dortmunder. I've heard Jamil and others say it is one of the widest categories in the BJCP, so its hard to not make it the style. However, there still aren't too many examples out there. I'll have to grab the one from Great Lakes and try it.
