Summary of 11/18/06 JAB meeting #3
Minutes and Updates:
The minutes include topics discussed at the 11/18 meeting as well as subsequent emails and web posting updates.
Attendees: Eric Wentling,, JD Lundford, Mike Busse, Ty Harrison, Matt Sannes, Dave Manley
Location: Midwest Homebrewing and Winemakeing Supplies and Granite City Brewery
Item #1
Members again discussed their desire to enter into AHA sanctioned homebrew competitions. Ty Harrison brought up two competitions that are coming up:
1) 1/27/07 Upper Mississippi Mash Out (Twin Cities) – Entries due by 1/13/07
2) 2/10/07 Great Northern Brew Ha Ha (Duluth) – Entries due by 1/27/07
Entries can be mailed in, although Midwest Supplies will accept entries for the Upper Mississippi Mash Out.
ACTION – members may submit an entry and should be sure to associate themselves with JAB.
Item #2
Mike Busse discussed the cost associated with the JAB web site. The cost is minimal at approximately $15.00. Members agree to defray the cost amongst all JAB members. Members expressed their desire to have a JAB blog or message board.
SINCE MTG – the website has continued to expand and now has an active blog. I believe Mike and JD have been responsible for much of its content and development, thanks guys!
ACTION - a small fee for member dues will need to be established and will be discussed at the next meeting (hopefully with Treasurer Jim present).
Item #3
Eric Wentling volunteered to contact Midwest Supplies about obtaining a discount for JAB members.
SINCE MTG – Midwest Supplies has graciously offered a 10% discount with the provision that JAB members present a membership card with a number and expiration date.
ACTION – Eric Wentling has called dibs on #1. We will need to develop a JAB membership card with a number (to be decided) and expiration date (to be decided) and this again obviates the need to establish a dues structure.
Item #4
JAB members again briefly discussed the need for a logo. Jim Trowbridge has previously stated that he has contacted a graphic designer (friend) who is willing to work with our ideas.
SINCE MTG – more than ever there is a need for a JAB logo for both the web site and membership cards. There has been quite a bit of chatter about its design. Members have again suggested a Jester character on a playing card style (jack of course).
ACTION – Member’s ideas for the JAB logo should be seriously discussed at the next meeting.
Item #5
Eric Wentling informed members that he had registered JAB on the AHA website, but JAB had not officially listed us yet (he will contact them).
SINCE MTG – JAB is now listed on the AHA site as well Beertown.org.
Item #6
All five members who attended the first meeting have since brewed the assigned Oatmeal Stout. Members discussed having a blind taste test in January.
SINCE MTG – there will now be a December meeting at Brett’s (see below).
ACTION – Members should consider bringing their Oatmeal Stout (if ready) for a taste test at the December meeting.
Adjournment
Other JABber News:
1) Brett Schneider will host JAB’s 4th meeting at his home/brewery on December 15th at 6:30.
2) Jim Trowbridge took part in the “teach a friend to brew day”. As a result JAB may have another member in the near future.
3) Finally, JAB would like to welcome Jon Baldwin who has recently expressed interest in joining. This would be JAB’s 10th member since its September inception, wow!
