Item #1

The following is a list of members and their beers and/or meads they brought to share:

Eric Wentling:  Apocalypse Brau, Raspberry Meade, Cherry Meade, Fall Spice Meade, and “will call it Cork” Meade.

Jon Baldwin:  Scottish Ale, Black Beat Fiz, Sublime Beat Meade and Watermelon Fiz.

Kent Olson:  Hop Head Double IPA clone.

Item #2

Jim Trowbridge brought the new JAB member cards complete with the new JAB logo.  The cards and logo are excellent and were unanimously approved.  He will have them laminated and will mail them to all members.

ACTION:  all members should email Jim Trowbridge their home address at ******** and he will mail them out to you.  Do not post them on the JABber blog unless you want that info out there.

ACTION:  the new JAB logo will also need to be added to the website.

Item #3

At a previous meeting we set JAB dues to be $10.00 per year.  This week some people actually gave it up.  Some of the money will go for the cost of the web hosting site.  Any money left over at the end of the year will be used for an end of the year party.

ACTION:  members are encouraged to pay Treasurer Jim Trowbridge.

Item #4

JAB members have continued to express their desire to grow the club.  Present membership is at ten.  Members are encouraged to spread the word at home or work, all are welcome.  Perhaps if we grow to 20 members or so we would need to consider a public meeting site.  A local bar like Floyds in Victoria was suggested.

ACTION:  get the word out.

Item #5

FYI Summit Beer enthusiasts - Eric and his wife will be attending a food and drink pairing.  The selected drinks will be various Summit beers, mmmmm.  This event will be held at the North Coast Restaurant (952.475.4960) in Wayzata on March 9th.  If you would like to attend call for reservations.

Item #6

Competition updates:

A.  Many JAB members submitted their homebrews to the AHA sponsored Upper Mississippi Mashout competition.  Several members scored in the mid 30’s with their brews and their scoring sheets provided valuable feedback.  The comments were definitely worth reading.

B.  There will be another JAB homebrew competition.  This time the category is “anything Porter”.  The taste test will be at the May meeting.  Perhaps Kent would donate his extra magnetic stirrer as a door prize for the Porter deemed best of show?

ACTION:  start your “anything Porter” brews soon.

C.  This year JAB will be taking over the Carver County Fair’s homebrew competition in August.  We plan to inundate this category with brews to choose from.  Perhaps in the future we could help to better organize their beer and mead competition.  At present the organizers have asked that a 6 pack be submitted for judging so save your brews.  Associating submitted brews with the JAB name would also increase the clubs exposure.

Item #7

Next months meeting will be a field trip to Town Hall Brewery on Saturday March 10th, time to be determined.  Jim has volunteers to drive although I don’t think he will be coming from Prior Lake to pick the Waconia boys up.

ACTION:  Mark your calendars and determine a place to meet for carpooling.

Item #8

Members would still like to plan other field trips which could include Schell’s and Surly Brewing Company (Brooklyn Center) tours.
