Summary of 10/10/08 JAB Meeting @ Eric's house

Attendees:

1.      Group Brew from June:

a.      Before meeting started, Eric, Jon and Dave bottled the group brew that we did at Chris’ house back in June. The beer was split into 3 batches, using 3 different yeasts. We tasted during the meeting and after meeting; several members took bottles home with them. Interesting how an identical beer can vary so widely in taste by using different yeasts.

2.      Competitions:

a.      Upcoming contests:

·        Muddy Waters, entry deadline November 7. (see club forum for entry information)

·        Hoppy Halloween, entry deadline has passed, 3 members submitted entries

·        AHA Club Only IPA: none brought to meeting; none will be submitted from our club.

3.      Upcoming Club Brews:

a.      November meeting: Wood Aged Beers

b.      December meeting: Spiced/Holiday Beer. Open recipe, but should have a spice of some sort in it.

c.       February meeting: Bock Beers

5.      Hop Exchange

a.      Since Jon was the only member who brought hops, no exchange took place. However, Jon does have dried Cascades for sale if anyone is interested.

6.      Group Cider Pressing

a.      Approximately 6 people showed up at the Group Cider pressing on Saturday, 10/13 at Dave’s Grandpa-in-law’s farm.

b.      There were lots of apples to pick and yield was very good. We ended up with about 25 gallons of pressed cider.

c.       It was a fun event, and the process is efficient when there are enough members to pick, clean, grind, press, clean, etc.

d.      There are still lots of apples to pick, so if our group wanted to organize another pressing in the next couple of weeks, we could do that.

e.      See website and/or forum for pictures.
