Attendees:

1.      Upcoming Group Brews:

a.      June – Blonde Ale, BYO recipe

2.      Club Awards:

a.      We now have the “Golden Mash Paddle” trophy for our “beer of the month”!

b.      We also will have end of year awards to be given out the January meeting. Need to come up with categories. We can refer to past meeting minutes for refreshers on beers sampled. Also everyone encouraged to post favorites on message board.

3.      Competitions:

a.      Make sure to submit your previous awards won to J.D. for inclusion on the club website’s award page.

b.      Results since last meeting:

·        Ty & Eric got a couple more medals. Sorry, I didn’t jot down which contests or beers. Good job guys!

c.       Upcoming entry deadlines:

·        May 2: AHA Extract competition. We forgot to select the entry for this at the meeting, but on the message board, we’ve selected Kent’s IPA as our club entry.

4.      Carver County Fair

a.      Our club has been asked to participate in the Carver County Fair. Initial request is to set up a booth in the beer garden at certain times and give demonstrations and possibly samples of our home brewed beer, wine, cider and mead.

b.      Many in group are skeptical about the legality of giving samples. J.D. to contact someone at the MN Bureau of Alcohol & Gambling about this.

c.       Brian to continue talking to Fair Board to get additional details: (how, when, where, possible $ for signage, etc.)

d.      Chris and Bill to work on putting together a club jockey box

e.      Dave will contact other homebrew clubs to see if they’ve done this sort of thing and if they have any tips or suggestions.

f.        Although there are many details to work out, most in the group feel this is a great opportunity to promote the club.

5.      Club Shirts

a.      If we are going to start attending events as a club, we should have club shirts. We need to check on pricing for the following 3 types: silkscreen t-shirts, embroidered golf shirts, embroidered denim shirts.

b.      Brian has contacts and will check on pricing

c.       Dave’s wife has contacts and will check on pricing

d.      Jim emailed logos to Dave and Brian for use in price quotes.

6.      Technical Topic: Hop Growing (Jon)

a.      Jon presented thorough and interesting information on hop growing. We had had some contact with some people in Redwood Falls that were interesting in attending, but did not show, perhaps due to the weather. Jon had very good information on the process of planting, growing, harvesting, and drying hops. If anyone would like to see the notes, or has questions, contact Jon.
