Summary of 6/13/08 JAB Meeting @ Dave's house

Attendees:

1.      New members/dues/glasses:

a.      A couple members owe Jim for additional club glasses. Will pay Jim next meeting he can get to.

2.      Interclub Camp-Out:

a.      June 7-8, KOA Campground in Jordan

b.      Chris attended one day, did not camp. He had a good time, had many great beers. See forum topic for more details. Club should attend this event next year.

3.      Shirts:

a.      Current logo will have black colors reversed to white and vice versa when printed on black/dark shirts. The group felt this might look odd, so Dave has requested a sample of how this would look from vendor.

b.      Also, Dave to contact Jim to see if green can be replaced with white in the logo, keeping total colors at 5 and cost remain the same. If not, we will look at the expense of doing a 6-color logo.

c.       See forum for styles, colors, prices, etc.

d.      Get orders to Dave – would like to have orders in by 2 weeks.

e.      Payment due upon delivery of shirts.

4.      Upcoming events:

a.      Next meeting – July 11. Need a host. Eric may be able to host, if not on call. So if anyone wants to volunteer to host, that would be appreciated.

b.      July 12: Group brew at Chris’ house. This will be a recipe formulated on the spot depending on what ingredients each member brings. See forum for details and specifics. So far we have the following:

·        Base grain: Chris & J.D.

·        Hops: Jon, Brian & Kent

·        Yeast: Eric, Dave & Kent

·        Water: Chris

c.       State Fair and Carver County Fair in August. Let’s get a bunch of entries in both from our club!

d.      Ty indicated he would host September meeting.

5.      Club Brews:

a.      For September/October meeting, several varieties were debated, but group reached agreement on Nutbrown Ale. Open recipe.

b.      November – oak aged beers. Get going on them now to give plenty of aging time.

c.       February – bocks.

6.      Blonde Ale Tasting!

a.      We conducted this as a blind tasting. We did not know who the brewer was for each sample. Thanks to Dave’s wife Sarah for being our “beer stewardess”. (She had another name for it, but since I live with her, I won’t record it in the minutes!)

b.      Group felt this was a very interesting and fun way to taste the beers. We will do this method again for future tastings.

c.       Despite sticking to the published recipe as close as possible, there were some distinct variations in each beer, leading to good discussion about methods, techniques, etc.
