Summary of 7/11/08 JAB Meeting @ Eric's house

1.      Shirts:

a.      Only a few members still need to put in their orders. Would like to have orders in by end of week, July 18.

b.      See forum for styles, colors, prices, etc.

c.       Payment due upon delivery of shirts.

2.      Upcoming events:

a.      July 12: Group brew at Chris’ house. This went well, was a fun time. Beer currently in primary with 3 different yeasts. Will decide how to divvy up beer between members. Thanks to Chris and his wife for hosting and for the food.

b.      State Fair and Carver County Fair in August. Let’s get a bunch of entries in both from our club! Entry dates are rapidly approaching. State Fair entries can be dropped off at Midwest Supplies. Suggestion made to pre-register for Carver County Fair online to shorten time waiting in line dropping off entries.

c.       August Club Only Competition is Meads. Group tasted several meads and selected Eric’s Sweet Mead as our club’s entry.

d.      September Club Only Competition: Imperial Anything

3.      Club Brews:

a.      September meeting: Nutbrown Ale. Open recipe, Northern or Southern style. 

b.      November – oak aged beers. Get going on them now to give plenty of aging time.

c.       December – Holiday/Spiced beers. Open recipe.

d.      February – bocks. Open recipe.

4.      Technical Topic: Esther/Phenol Balancing in Wheat Beers (Chris)

a.      Chris had to compete with the weather outside and on TV, but gave an interesting talk on balancing esters/phenols (clove/banana) Chris has all the information, if anyone has any questions, or would like to see the materials, contact Chris.
