Summary of 3/06/09 JAB Meeting

1. New Member & Guest Introductions:
a. Good to see a few new members and guests at this meeting. (See above.)
2. Club Calendar
a. March Mashness: entry deadline is March 15. Entries can be dropped off at Midwest Supplies in St. Louis Park.
b. Club Only Competitions:
· Beers over 1.080 OG: sampled a few possible entries for this competition, but none were deemed worthy to be entered
· Next up is Extract Brews, must be 50% extract, so bring to April meeting and we’ll select a candidate.
3. April meeting

b. Presentation: Refractometer & Hydrometer Calibration by Chris
4. Rock Bottom Tour
a. Chris to check on scheduling tour of Minneapolis Rock Bottom for sometime in late March or April
5. Club Calendar
a. Calendar is now online, check website or forum for links.
b. Club meetings, competitions and local craft beer events on calendar. Click on event for details.
c. As of night of meeting, data seemed to disappear from calendar, but has since been restored.
6. BYO Subscription Drive
a. Brew Your Own Magazine is conducting a subscription drive good for both new and renewal subscriptions. Approximately half of subscription costs will be returned to our club. Minimum number of subscriptions is 10. Contact Eric if interested in subscribing or renewing to this very good and informative brewing magazine.
7. Dave’s Barleywine Tasting
a. Dave will be hosting a Barleywine/big beer tasting at his house.
b. Tentative date is Friday, March 27. See forum for details, or contact Dave. (email at davesarman1@mchsi.com)
8. Presentation: Entering Contests
a. Eric’s portion of presentation was a demonstration on his laptop on how to enter homebrewing competitions.
b. Dave’s portion of presentation was how to package your entries to ship to competitions, or just shipping beer to other people.
c. If anyone has any questions on how to enter contests, or ship beer, contact Eric or Dave
9. Next Style of the Month
a. Group decided next style of the month will be Saisons for the July meeting.
b. This will be open recipe, but should be brewed in accordance to BJCP Style category 16C.
c. We would like to do a blind tasting, similar to the Blonde Ale tasting last year.

b. Group was very impressed by the number and quality of the beers brought to this meeting. Proof that regardless of method we are all getting better as brewers! Good job Jabbers!
